Attendees: Denyse Du Brucq, Dr. David Baits, Chuck and Letha Kimball, Linda Curtis, Betty Baldwin, Lisa Schroeder, Christi Cox, Larry Shepherd, Jane Mills, Heather Fox, Don Miller and Sherman Mackereth, and Craig and Betsy Saunders. Guests include Marilyn Reid, W. Reed Madden, Bob Hackett, as well as Brendan Epps, Missy Spangler and Emma Stuckey of the American Cancer Society.

    Discussion:

    1. American Cancer Society’s Greene County Relay for Life:
Brendan Epps, Missy Spangler, and Emma Stuckey gave a 15 minute presentation on the Greene County Relay for Life that is scheduled for August 15- 16, at Shawnee Park, Xenia. They highlighted the importance of this fundraiser in supporting several cancer research facilities. They are currently looking for volunteers to help with the event and to walk in the event. If you would like more information about this fundraiser, please call Brendan Epps (213-235-6991), Missy Spangler (937-426-654), or Emma Stuckey (188-426-6446, Ex. 4203).

    2. Approval of the January 2008 Meeting Minutes: Don Miller moved that the minutes be approved as written with Heather Fox providing the second; motion passed.

    3. Treasurer's Report: Lisa Schroeder, Chamber Treasurer, stated we have $2,849.59 in the treasury. She also purchased the Chamber’s lap top computer for $1,078.98. The computer has already been invaluable to the Meet the Candidate Committee. Sherman Mackereth moved that the Treasurer's report be approved as given with Don Miller second it; motion passed.

    4. Corn Hole Tournament: The January tournament was cancelled due to severe weather conditions. The next corn hole tournament is scheduled for March 15th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at the Grace Baptist Church Gym. The cost is $5 per player.

    5. Chamber Membership Drive: Sherman Mackereth has been working hard on our membership drive. To date there are 61 members for the year 2008. Heather Fox, the Chamber Public Relations person, will be sending out a letter to those businesses that are not members inviting them to participate in the Chamber.

    6. Sale of Sweatshirts: Linda Curtis has done a great job with selling the sweatshirts. There are still 10 to be sold. Call Linda at 766-5855 or 675-6512 if you would like to buy one. It was suggested that we sell T-shirts starting in the spring.

    7. Distribution of Chamber Meeting Minutes: Due to changes in the law, the Chamber will be posting its minutes in three locations within the Village so that those members, who do not have an e-mail address, may view them. The locations are the Post Office, Library, and Main Street Station bulletin boards. If you want to have them mailed to you the Chamber will charge postage costs. If you have an e-mail address but are not receiving the minutes, please call the Chamber office.

    8. Chamber Communication - Chamber Chat: Denyse Du Brucq is chairing the committee that will be putting together the Chamber Chat committee. The Chamber Chart will be held every three months. The purpose of the Chamber Chat is to share your business with other members of the Chamber. Each Chamber Chat will be hosted by one or two businesses, wherever they choose. The program content is left up to the host businesses. If you would like to serve on the committee or be one of the first to host the Chamber Chat, please call Denyse at 766-4660.

    9. Cedarville Newspaper: Lori Harris has been working very hard to bring a newspaper to Cedarville. The people who will be doing the paper have found the financial situation of our area is hindering them from getting the paper started, but they are working on a solution. There will still be a column in the Springfield paper on Cedarville, so if you have anything to contribute, please contact Lori.

    10. Fireworks Fundraising: The Chamber is responsible for raising $5,000 in support of the CedarFest Fireworks. The original idea is to send a letter to the corporations that are involved with Cedarville; i.e., DP&L. Chuck and Letha Kimball will be Co-Chairs to help raise funds for the fireworks. Heather Fox and Linda Curtis volunteered to assist. Some ideas put forth were having a fundraising dinner, selling items such as the sweatshirts, T-shirts, garbage bags, light bulbs, etc. If you have some ideas or would like to be on the committee, please call the Kimballs at 767-7980.

    11. Meet the Candidate’s Night: Betty Baldwin, Heather Fox, Lori Harris, and Lisa Schroeder have worked hard to put together the Chamber’s Meet the Candidates’ Night, to be held on February 19th, 7:00-9:00 p.m., at the Apple Technology Resource Center. This event is being co-sponsored with the Center for Political Studies at Cedarville University. There are more than thirty-five candidates running for various offices in Greene County, U.S. Representative, and the State Senate. Almost all of the candidates have confirmed their participation in this event. This event will also be video taped and then placed on the Chamber web sight. A motion was made by Don Miller to pay the $80 for the videotape to Cedarville University. Heather Fox second; motion passed. For additional information on this event and the candidates, please see the Chamber web site.

    12. Window Displays: Lisa Schroeder suggested that we use the storefronts in town to advertise our area businesses. The Senior Citizen's Center was suggested as one location where this could be done. If you want to make your store front window available for a display, or if you are interested in displaying your business in this manner, please call the Chamber Office at 766-5418.

    13. CedarFest Give Away: Denyse Du Brucq suggested a phone book cover be made with all the Chamber businesses listed on it to be given away at CedarFest. This is a good idea and will be taken under consideration by the CedarFest committee.

    14. Donations to Cedar Cliff Schools: Sherman Mackereth suggested that we again donate money for the Sports Award Banquet and the 8th Grade Washington trip. Don Miller moved that we send $60.00 to support four students for the Sports Award Banquet. Lori Harris second, motion passed. Also, Dr. Bates will find out if there is a need for the Chamber to support one student for the Washington trip. Last year, the Chamber paid $385.00. We will look at funding a student for the Washington trip as the need arises.

    15. Use of Senior Citizen's Center for Chamber Meetings: Heather Fox made a motion that the Chamber pay the Senior Citizen's Center $50.00 for allowing the Chamber to hold its meetings every month. Denyse Du Brucq second the motion, motion passed.

    16. Audit of Chamber Treasury: Betty Baldwin reminded everyone that the books need to be audited. Don Miller stated that the Vice President of Morgal Machines volunteered to do the audit.

    Other Business:

    1. Denyse Du Brucq, Managing General Partner of Air Wars Defense, LP, is getting close to obtaining the monies to buy land in the Cedarville Township for developing facilities to house her company. This could be a big boost for the Cedarville area.

    2. Lori Harris is having an Arbonne Open House on Feb 18th from 5-8 at her home 1516 South River Rd. Clifton. There are lots of new products to showcase. This would be an unofficial Chamber Chat. If you have questions, call Lori at 767-2086. Invite some friends to come along with you.

Secretary, Sherman Mackereth, recorded the meeting minutes. If you have questions about the Chamber, please contact us at the number above, or send us an e-mail at CedarvilleChamber@yahoo, or through the web site: www.cedarvillechamber.com
